How does Sunsay work?

You set an alarm and you pick the friend you want to wake you up. They get a notification asking them to record. They record a short voice message for you, up to 30 seconds: that is a Sunsay. At your alarm time, their voice rings instead of your ringtone. You already know who you picked, so there is no mystery to solve. An alarm can be set for the same day, as long as it is at least a minute away.

Keep the app open until the voice arrives

Sunsay downloads your friend's message only while the app is running and connected. Keep Sunsay open and online until their voice reaches your phone. Once it has arrived, you can close the app and it will still wake you. If the voice does not arrive in time, a backup ringtone wakes you anyway, and you will find their message when you open the app.

The alarm did not ring with my friend's voice

That means the message had not reached your phone before the alarm went off. Either your friend recorded too late, or the app was closed or offline while it was being delivered. The backup ringtone takes over so you are never left without an alarm, and the voice message is waiting for you in the app.

How do I add a friend?

Pick your Sunsay name (your @handle) and share your invite link. A friend request has to be accepted before anyone can wake you, so nobody can send you an alarm without your agreement.

How do I reply after waking up?

Right after the alarm you land on the reveal screen. Tap one of the emojis to react instantly, or record a voice reply of up to 10 seconds. Your friend is notified either way.

How do I report a message?

On the reveal screen, under "Un souci ?", tap "🚩 Signaler" (Report). You can also open a message from your list and choose the same action. We review every report and remove offending content within 24 hours.

How do I block someone?

In the same place, choose "🛑 Bloquer" (Block). You can also block someone from their friend page. You will never receive their messages or their reactions again, and their past messages disappear from your app. If you change your mind, unblock them from Profil > Comptes bloqués (Profile > Blocked accounts).

How do I delete my account and my data?

In the app, open Profil (Profile) and use "Supprimer mon compte" (Delete my account) at the bottom of the screen. This permanently deletes your account and all your data (recordings, @handle, friends, first name) from our servers and from this device. Apple may ask you to confirm your identity first. The action cannot be undone. You can also ask us by email. Details on the Privacy page.

Permissions

Sunsay needs alarms (to wake you up), the microphone (to record your messages and your replies) and notifications (to tell you when a friend is waiting for your voice, and when your Sunsay has arrived). Sign in with Apple is optional and is only used to back up and restore your account. Sunsay does not ask for your contacts, your photos or your location, and does not track you.

Which languages and platforms?

The app itself is currently in French, and available on iPhone. An Android version is on the way: you can join the waiting list. This support page is available in français.
